Choosing a canvas size is mostly about the space it will hang in. Use this table as a starting point.
| Size (inches) | Shape | Works well for |
|---|---|---|
| 10 x 10 | Square | Shelves, desks, nightstands, or as part of a gallery wall |
| 12 x 12 | Square | Small walls, above a desk, a row of three above a twin bed |
| 16 x 16 | Square | Above a bed or desk, a good single statement for a kid's or teen's room |
| 20 x 20 | Square | Above a sofa or bed on its own, or in a row of three on a larger wall |
| 24 x 24 | Square | The big statement piece; best on a wall with room around it |
| 20 x 10 | Panorama (2:1) | Above a monitor, a dresser or a shelf; wide, shallow spaces |
| 30 x 15 | Panorama (2:1) | Above a sofa, a bed or a gaming setup |
A rule of thumb
For art over furniture, aim for two thirds to three quarters of the furniture's width. A 72 inch sofa looks balanced under about 48 to 54 inches of art; a 24 x 24 canvas on its own will look small there, while a 30 x 15 panorama or a row of three 12 to 16 inch canvases fits well.
Square or panoramic?
Square canvases are flexible: hang one, or hang several in a grid or row. Panoramic canvases fill wide spaces in a single piece and need no arranging. Our World Tour panorama and Loot Row panorama are designed for the 2:1 format.
Good to know
- Sizes are the visible canvas face. Canvases are about 1.25 inches deep.
- Because of the production process, expect a size tolerance of about 1/8 inch (3 mm).
- Each product page lists the sizes available for that design, since a few older listings offer more.
